OUR 2018 - 2019 STORY

Transition and a Milestone Celebration

ANNUAL REPORT | 2018 - 2019

OUR EVOLVING ASH STORY

A YEAR OF TRANSITION

2018 - 2019 was another successful year for ASH. With many new faces on the school’s leadership team, our new director, Dr. Lowe, managed the leadership transition very well by embracing and connecting with all stakeholders of the school. While building on and respecting the strong foundations established under the previous long-serving director, Dr. Lowe and his team continued to explore new ideas to keep our school abreast of latest developments in the world of education to prepare our students for the future, not just academically but as future citizens of the world, internationally-minded, culturally diverse, curious critical thinkers, equipped with useful life skills.

OUR WORK

A Curation of Our Thoughts and Appreciation

While we are retooling for the future of ASH, it is important that we also celebrate the many ways we are, as an entire community, enhancing the lives of our students, families and staff in the here and now.
             - Dr. J. Courtney Lowe, Director
The conclusion of a school year is always an exciting time to look back and review many of the notable experiences, activities and events that have taken place over the past 180 school days. This is attributed to the dedicated faculty and staff who passionately teach your child/children with joy, compassion and professionalism.
     - Tim Messick, Elementary School Principal
ASH has defined itself as a forward-thinking school poised to develop what education can and needs to be. We currently are on a journey of collaboratively crafting this future through strategic planning and re-accreditation work.
   - Christine Blackburn/Beth Coyle, Middle School Principal
We have been working to ensure we create an environment that encourages student confidence and independence in their learning from and for the world.
- Joanne Reykdal, High School Principal

In order to be able to provide a world-class education for our current and future students, financial stability and long-term sustainability of the school are key focus areas for the Board.

     - Karel Drastich, Chair, Board of Trustees

In preparation for my departure, the Board has selected Matthew Bott as the next Board Chair who has assumed his new role in June 2019. I am pleased to be leaving ASH in his good hands and would like to wish him success in this important role.

2018-2019 Financials
ASH has a long history of healthy financial performance. Our income is predominantly driven by school fees and our expenses are largely related to professional staff compensation. This means that our income is largely correlated to our enrollment.

Our cost structure, projected income and reserves are under continuous monitoring by the school's Finance team and the Board of Trustees. Major investments may impact our cost structure. We are therefore especially vigilant with regard to our projected income and enrollment.
